I still remember the exact moment I was hit with Bullion FOMO
I was watching a Bullion Now live stream video, but it wasn’t live. It was the morning after. And they were talking about Coca Cola Bullion that had arrived. And I was excited! I needed those coins and I couldn’t miss out.
The reason FOMO hit was When I was a kid I’d collect lots of weird stuff. And for some reason I collected anything with the word “coca cola” on it. Cans, bottles, towels, pictures, even coke phone cards.
Watching that video, Suddenly, I was back into Coke collector Mode. I needed those Coke coins. My new obsession (bullion coins) and my old obsession (coke collecting) merged into something new. I was so excited and I NEEDED that coke bullion. They looked so cool, and the coke bullion bar was even cooler.
The Coca-Cola Coin I missed (and Found Somewhere Else)
I paused the video, jumped online to the Bullion Now website and the Coke bullion was sold out. Oh man, I was sad. I really wanted that Coca-Cola branded bullion. And I figured that they would just get it back in stock one day. My FOMO turned into SIMO (Sad I Missed Out). I just hoped they would get it back in stock one day.
On that day, I vowed to watch the Bullion Now live streams on the Friday, as close to live as possible. That way I would never miss out on sweet bullion that gets dropped on the stream. Now it’s a Friday tradition, make dinner for my kids, tidy up and watch the live stream. And be ready for surprise announcements and snap up anything the BN Boys drop online. I wasn’t going to miss anything ever again.
The Bullion Dealers Revelation
And really, I was pretty dumb. Because weeks later I stumbled upon Coke Bullion from another bullion store. I was like Whaaa? There are other bullion stores in Melbourne? And they sold other really cool coins? That was when the light went off in my head. I had no idea there were other stores, so I started exploring. And in the process, I found other coins I never knew existed, and I discovered some amazing places online.
That was when I asked myself, why isn’t there a single place online to help fellow stackers, collectors and investors to find these stores? Why isn’t there an Australian resource to help people like me, that wanted to see what other stores had? A website or something to connect bullion buyers to every store and dealer in Melbourne? So if you missed a coin at one store, you could just go to the next.
How cool would that be?
And that was why I started the Aussie Bullion Buyers Club
The Obsessive Collector Gene Goes Back a Long Way
Most bullion collectors and stackers have an origin story. Their first coin, or what got them into buying the sweet shiny shiny coins to begin with. Here is mine.
As a kid growing up I loved collecting comic books. After I got my first comic book in a showbag from the Royal Melbourne show – when I was 6. Something changed that day and that was it. It blew my mind, and I was OBSESSED. My love for comics and collecting escalated. Every dollar I had went to comic books. When I wasn’t reading them I was thinking about them, drawing images from them and making money to buy more.
That also crossed into other things I loved, like action figures and cartoons. Which also lead to japanese animation, collecting animation cells and japanese art books when I was older.
The collecting gene was already running rampant in my DNA. But it never crossed over into coins or stamps – which I found boring. I even collected phone cards – but they were sort of cool? I think. So I continued to collect comics and various cool nerdy-things. Videogames, vinyl, magazines. I couldn’t help myself.
The bullion stacking came by accident.
Kiyosaki & Scrooge McDuck back a long way
As a kid, I was aware of the gold and silver. Being Eastern-European, I would get gold for special occasions, and I didn’t see the point. I didn’t like wearing it because I thought it made me look like my uncles. I just wasn’t interested in gold or silver.
But I did start to learn about macroeconomics and inflation, and my super star finance guys like Robert Kiyosaki, George Gammon and James Rickards, talked a lot about gold bullion.
I started buying digital gold on the Perth Mint Bullion app (when it existed), then I bought my first few silver kangaroos which was a weird first time experience in a bullion store. And the kangaroos were cool, and I could see the value in them. But that was strictly from an investment mindset.
But then I found the Warner Brothers and Simpsons coins online. I went down to Bullion Now and bought them all. I loved those coins, I would just stare at them.
Then I started to find other characters I needed to have. Spongebob. Scrooge. So I would continue to stack kangaroos, but I’d buy more expensive, collector coins. The character coins helped me cross over from stacker, to collector and I really started to love the coins. And I would appreciate the designs, and their beauty. They were just so cool.
And that was it. I haven’t stopped since.
Why I actually built this thing
So it brings me back to the Aussie Bullion Buyers Club. And this website exists because I missed out on aa cool coin that I later realised I could get elsewhere. And I love that in my journey I have discovered some amazing dealers that sell some unique bullion. But I also uncovered a fantastic community too.
My intention is to list every dealer in Australia, so you can find what stores you can visit in your state. Or maybe you can look at who ships online and take a look around the country. And you might even discover a dealer around the corner from your house, which you never knew existed.
There are a stack (pun intended) of bullion dealers around Australia. And I intend to shine a light on them, and help fellow stackers, collectors and investors find the best, and buy to their hearts content.
So if you come across a Bullion dealer in the list, let me know. And if I’m missing any key features, drop a line.
