WHy I built this website

The Aussie Bullion Buyer Behind the Site

I’m Goran Vee, a Melbourne-based bullion buyer and I’m obsessed with gold and silver. I’m a bullion stacker, collector and investor and I’ve been writing about personal finance and investing for several years.

I’ve walked into bullion stores that felt like underground clubs. Lost out on limited releases because I didn’t know other stockists had them. And I honestly wondered why there was no Australian directory dedicated to Aussie Bullion.

So I built the site I wished existed – an honest, Australian directory and guide for anyone curious about buying gold and silver.

That’s it – enjoy the site and say hi.

Frequently asked questions

Questions Aussie bullion buyers actually ask

Straight answers in a simple explanation. If you don’t see your question here, it’s probably in our full guide.

Yes – if you stick to established, reputable dealers. Key checks: a physical Australian address, clear buy-back policies, and genuine buyer reviews. Our directory only lists dealers we’ve verified, and we flag any concerns raised by the community.

For most beginners, the Perth Mint Gold Kangaroo (1oz, 99.99% pure) is the best starting point – government-backed, highly liquid, and recognised worldwide. For collectors, Perth Mint’s annual limited editions often carry strong resale value. We review the top picks in our gold coins guide.

Yes. Gold bullion meeting the ATO’s definition of “investment gold” – 99.5% or higher purity in bars or coins – is GST-free in Australia. Silver bullion (99.9% pure or higher) is also GST-free. Some numismatic coins may be treated differently, so it’s worth confirming with your accountant.

Look for: an ABN verifiable on the ABR website, a physical Australian address, clear pricing with visible premiums over spot, and genuine buyer reviews not written by the dealer itself. All dealers in our directory have been assessed for legitimacy before listing.

Melbourne has many reputable bullion dealers – walk-in stores in the CBD and suburbs, plus online dealers shipping nationally. Our Melbourne directory lists every major option with buyer ratings, store photos, and contact details so you can compare before you visit.

Gold bars typically have lower premiums over spot price – you get more gold for your money. Gold coins are legal tender, more recognisable, and often easier to sell. For stackers focused on value: bars. For collectors or those who want easy liquidity: coins. We break it all down in our buying guide.

Generally yes – gold and silver bullion are treated as capital assets by the ATO, so any profit on sale is subject to CGT. If you hold the bullion for more than 12 months, you may be eligible for the 50% CGT discount. CGT doesn’t apply if the bullion qualifies as a personal use asset worth less than $10,000. Always check with a qualified accountant for your specific situation – our tax guide for bullion investors covers the basics in plain English.
